Cultural Features
In addition to archaeology and built heritage, forests also contain cultural features that are sometimes unique or important to the locality. Examples are mass paths, holy wells, wart stones, rag trees, pilgrim routes etc. These are often not recorded but are known to the community and deserve to be preserved as part of our cultural heritage. The Forestry and Archaeology Guidelines and the forest certification standards (FSC and PEFC) recognise their importance and also require them to be protected.
